New Zealand allows entry to 5000 international students

The higher education department and government of New Zealand have shown commendable zeal by allowing more international students access to university education.

As a part of the government’s 5-step-plan released on 3rd February 2022 to reopen borders, the decision was made to create a cohort of 5000 international students that would be allowed entry into the country soon.

The fourth cohort of international students will be able to resume their studies from mid-2022. Previous cohort lists were created in 2020 and 2021. International students will be allowed entry through a centralized system. The education providers will start nominating students in March and the visa exception application process will start in April.

Students will not be required to go through Managed Isolation or stay in a Quarantine facility upon entry. However, they will be required to self-isolate for 7 days.

Additionally, normal visa processing for prospective international students will resume from October 2022.
