MIT reverses test-optional scheme, standardized tests now mandatory

MIT has announced on Monday that it will be reinstating mandatory requirement for SAT/ACT test score reporting from 2023-2024 academic session onwards.

The ivy league institute had made standardized test reporting optional in the wake of the global pandemic from 2020-2021. 3 years after the introduction of the flexible admission policy, it is now bringing back the old policy.

While major industry players like CSU have recently eliminated standardized test reporting for undergraduate admissions, MIT is going back to the old ways.

The university’s announcement mentioned that standardized test scores were a significant contributor in making admission decisions, as there is a strong focus on mathematics at the programs offered by the university.
